COAL CITY UNIVERSITY MEDICAL SERVICES

Coal City University Health Centre provides 24 hours daily healthcare services to the University Community. All students are required to enroll in the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) of the University. NHIS is an opportunity provided by the Federal Government of Nigeria for institutions to provide healthcare services to students and staff at a minimum cost. It ensures that an average student or staff who registered for the scheme enjoys uninterrupted healthcare services, especially at primary and secondary care levels. NHIS at CCU currently covers only students, with a huge benefit of bringing healthcare services closer to patients.

All prospective student NHIS enrollees are expected to take the following steps to register in the scheme:

At the beginning of each Academic Session:

  • Proceed to the Bursary Unit and make a premium payment
  • Take the receipt to the Health Centre and collect an NHIS form
  • Complete the form and attach 2 passport photographs
  • Return the completed form to the Health Centre, leaving a copy with the Admission Officer, for your file
  • An ID card will be issued to you after processing your form, at the Health Centre

To access healthcare services through this scheme:

  • Present your NHIS ID card to a Nurse on duty at the Health Centre

(If your card is not ready yet, present your payment receipt)

  • Proceed to consult the Doctor on duty, following instructions from the Nurse
  • After consultation, proceed to the pharmacy for collection of your prescribed drugs
  • Ensure that you complete the dosage of medications dispensed to you at any point in time, even if the symptom(s) cleared at the first treatment attempt
  • Ensure you return to the Health Centre on the next appointment date given to you during your first visit

If your case cannot be handled at the CCU Health Centre, you will be transferred to the Annunciation Specialist Hospital, Emene, Enugu, for specialized care (Note: You must present your NHIS ID Card or receipt of payment, before you can be attended to)
