The Coal City University Enugu, CCU, holds two activities on Monday, 7th September and Thursday 10th September 2020 in her continued esteemed effort to internationalize the university curriculum, transform students learning experience and produce well-rounded, entrepreneurial, and globally employable graduates.
On Monday, the 7th, Coal City University will induct 55 International world class professors and fellows based mainly in universities in North America and Western Europe into the services of the University for the 2020 -22 academic sessions.
The induction, themed Engaging African Academic Diaspora in Building a Model University in Nigeria will feature Nigeria’s former Minister for National Planning, Prof Osita Ogbu as keynote speaker and CCU’s internationally respected Vice Chancellor, Prof Afam Icha-Ituma as host. The keynote speaker will discuss and reflect on the potential benefits that Africa can reap from its academic diaspora population and expatriate academic staff.
The inductees include Prof Aminu Mamman, University of Manchester, UK, Prof May Seitanidi of University of Kent UK, Prof Ven Tauringana of the University of Southampton UK, Prof Ikenna Uzuegbunam of Ohio University USA, Professor Chika Anyanwu of Adelede University Australia, among others. These highly accomplished and globally recognised academics will collaborate with their colleagues at CCU on joint projects, research, and teaching of courses to deliver international standard learning to CCU students. The Visiting Scholars will also undertake academic interventions related to enhancing capacities in teaching and research in all disciplines and will drive the research pipeline from discovery to commercialisation to enhance Nigeria’s future wellbeing and prosperity. Induction time is 1pm and the event will be done online via Google Meet.
Then, on the 10th of September, at 10am, through Google Meet as well, Coal City University will host the Australian High Commissioner to Nigeria and the ECOWAS states, Her Excellency, Claire Ireland, to a conversation themed Globalization, Higher Education and National Development: Experiences and Lessons from Australia. She will reflect on how international partnerships and outstanding Australian universities have been critical to the social and economic success of Australia. These activities further indicate that Coal City University is a globally focused and fast-rising university in Nigeria. The University aims to provide quality education of international standards comparable to what is obtainable in top universities in North America and Europe, at a significantly lower fee than what it costs to study abroad.
